Our Checklist Moving Equipment!
Moving equipment can include a truck, boxes, dolly, straps, ropes, tie-downs, blankets, ramps, gloves and more. You can find most of the moving equipment that you may need on our moving boxes page. If you are moving yourself and renting a truck then the truck rental company will also have some equipment that they may offer to rent to you.
Moving Equipment!
If you are having a moving company move you then the only moving equipment that you need to be concerned with are items which would actually go under the heading of moving supplies. For the most part, you will need a generous supply of boxes, tape and markers. Other items that you may find handy include a moving folder and a moving checklist.
When you decide to do your own move, you are most likely interested in saving as much money as possible. Cutting costs on the moving equipment that you rent is not a very practical way of saving money. It could actually be considered a form of gambling.
You should get the most reliable moving equipment that you can find. Starting with the moving truck that you rent, you should check over each piece of equipment for any flaws. A fractured or faulty dolly could mean that you might end up losing an expensive piece of furniture. If your tie-downs slip or break then your load could shift and damage a good portion of your possessions.
Even if you have moving insurance, you wouldn't want to go through the hassle of making claims and trying to replace your lost or broken items. Some items may even be irreplaceable. Having good moving equipment can make it possible for you to get through your move without any incidents. It can even help to prevent injuries.
If you rent a moving truck then it is a good idea to get the optional items that they offer for an additional fee. You should at least rent a solid and sturdy dolly and opt for as many moving blankets as you will need to cover sensitive items. Keep in mind that when you return your rental truck you will need to return it in the same condition as it was in when you picked it up. They usually expect the truck to be returned with a full tank of gas and the trailer to be swept out. You should also fold and stack the blankets neatly. They will generally charge you extra if you do not take care to return the truck and moving equipment in good form.
Make a point to reserve your moving equipment as early as possible. The end of the month and weekends are especially busy times for moving truck rental companies. It may be difficult to get a reservation if you wait until the last minute.
Final Word: Do make a checklist and start organizing your move as early as possible!
