MoveRightUSA Tips About Moving Boxes!
The menu for the rest of the site is located to the right. If you are looking
for an easy way to get moving boxes and other types of moving supplies then
you can use the menu located above on the left. These items can really come
in handy so make sure that you order your moving supplies well in advance
of your moving date.
A Quick Note About Moving Boxes
As I have said before, you always need more moving boxes than you may think.
Try not to let yourself get in the position of running to the box store
for more boxes. This can be done if you plan ahead. Read through the moving
checklist and the moving tips sections
in order to get a better overall picture of your gameplan.
One of the things that you should do in preparation for your move is to
make a diagram of your existing house. You should also prepare an inventory
that lists all of your possesions. This will come in handy when it is time
to decide how many moving boxes you will need. Remember, it's not just the
number of boxes but also the size and shape of the boxes that will matter.
Packing Tips
You should try to pack just one room at a time. Pack each box and label
it with a description of what it contains and to which part of the new house
it is going. It is a good idea to be very specific in your descriptions.
One of the reasons for this is that you may find that you need something
prior to your move. I take that back. You WILL find that you need stuff
that you have already packed. By using detailed descriptions on your boxes
you will be able to avoid digging through all of the boxes just to find
that one item.
Try to distribute the weight of your boxes evenly and don't overload them.
The heavier items should go in small boxes. You want to try to avoid having
any boxes that weight over 40 pounds. If you are moving yourself then you
can leave certain items out of the box and just put them in a separate car
or stow them somehow without having to actually put them in a box. If you
are having professional movers do the work for you then basically everything
that can fit in a box, needs to be put in a box.
When you are boxing items that are fragile you need to add plenty of cushioning.
You should also make sure that you clearly label the box and write the word
fragile on at least 2 sides, preferably 3 sides. It is not that important
to write descriptions on the top or bottom of the box. Boxes generally get
stacked up and you will only be able to see the sides. When you are stacking
boxes you should put the heavier boxes at the bottom of the stack and use
common sense about the size of your stack. Even sturdy boxes should only
be stacked 4 high.
Be sure to pack the items that you will need right away in a separate box
or boxes. Clearly mark these boxes so that you will be able to find them
at your new home. They should be the last boxes loaded on the truck so that
they can be the first that are unloaded. Any items that you will need for
your first night in your new home should be packed in a suitcase or overnight
bag. You might even consider packing enough for 2 or 3 nights, just to be
on the safe side. Just pretend that you are going on vacation (But you're
not!).
